Jane Goodall Exhibition Receives TEA Thea Award for Outstanding Achievement
The Themed Entertainment Association (TEA) Awards Committee and TEA International Board of Directors have named the National Geographic Museum’s Becoming Jane: The Evolution of Dr. Jane Goodall exhibition as the recipient of the 27th Annual Thea Award for Outstanding Achievement in Museum Exhibit Design, Limited Budget. The Thea Awards are widely considered to be one of the most prestigious honors in the attractions industry.
Themed entertainment design company Falcon’s Creative Group was one of the key collaborators behind the exhibition’s immersive media and innovative interactive experiences, providing projection-mapped content for the introduction film and 3D immersive theater, as well as voice-activated interactives, a life-sized hologram of Dr. Goodall, and a custom augmented reality experience utilizing their Falcon’s Vision® AR headset.
“We are thrilled to have collaborated on this award-winning effort with the National Geographic Museum and the Jane Goodall Institute, and are ecstatic to see that it connects so profoundly with visitors and industry colleagues alike,” said Jason Ambler, VP of Falcon’s Digital Media. “Jane applied innovative approaches in her research on chimpanzees, which yielded extraordinary results. In a way, we aimed to do the same thing with our contributions to this exhibition.”
In June, Becoming Jane was chosen as an overall winner for the American Alliance of Museum’s 32nd Annual Excellence in Exhibition Competition. Both awards are a first for the National Geographic Society.
Alan Parente, Vice President of Creative at National Geographic, stated, “Our mission with this legacy exhibition is to celebrate the extraordinary life and work of Jane Goodall, exploring her early years, her fascinating research in Gombe, and her advocacy for conservationism. With the help of Falcon’s Creative Group, the exhibition’s experiences transport visitors to the jungles of Tanzania and beyond. They become invested in Jane’s story and feel inspired to take their own positive actions in the world.”
