Falcon’s Creative Group brought the Marvel Universe to life with Avengers: Battle of Ultron, an exhilarating 4D dark ride where guests come face to face with the supervillain, Ultron. Located in the Marvel Zone of IMG Worlds of Adventure in Dubai, the attraction seamlessly combines elaborate scenic, special effects, and a stereoscopic 3D multimedia experience with a one-of-a-kind dark ride system.
In addition to producing all of the media and audio elements, Falcon’s provided the attraction design, project management, and creative guardianship as well.
Guests are recruited as trainees of S.H.I.E.L.D. and ordered to board a vehicle flown by Hawkeye and Black Widow. Their objective is to deliver a weapon to Nick Fury that will defeat Ultron.
The massive exterior façade of the attraction is that of Avengers Tower, which looks like it has been pulled straight out of the comic books. Past the entrance marquee is the lobby area of the tower featuring a beaming Avengers logo on the wall behind the reception desk.
After a security checkpoint, the trainees pass from public areas to private rooms reserved for members of S.H.I.E.L.D. In the research and development labs, scientists are urgently testing various laser beams on one of Ultron’s drones that was captured and contained. The drone is a large animated scenic prop that is hit with a variety of colored lights. After several rounds of tests, the scientists finally devise a plan to combine several of the elements together, but will it work?
Trainees continue through a conference room where members of the World Council feverishly debate their next steps to deal with the ongoing Ultron situation. Trainees then pass through the armory, which includes the iconic suits of The Avengers encased in glass.
The trainees are ushered into a security elevator that will take them to the highest floor of the Tower. Once inside, the floor begins to rumble, as trainees are greeted by Nick Fury and debriefed on their mission. The Director explains that his team has developed a powerful weapon that can defeat Ultron and his army of drones, and he needs the trainees to deliver it to him on the Helicarrier. Hawkeye and Black Widow will escort them in Howler One, a helicopter-like vehicle called a quincopter.
As the trainees disembark from the elevator, believing they are now at the top of S.H.I.E.L.D. Tower, they hear the distant sounds of explosions and laser fire and get a glimpse of Hawkeye and Black Widow on the helipad through a protective window, as they load the weapon onto Howler One and finish their pre-flight inspection. Black Widow tells the trainees to board. The time to fly has arrived!
Trainees receive their 3D glasses and enter the custom-designed, side-facing ride vehicle that includes five embedded video monitors and an on-board audio system that is synchronized with the off-board experience throughout the entire ride. The onboard monitors feature information about the vehicle as well as a cockpit cam showing Hawkeye and Black Widow coordinating with Nick Fury.
Once safely loaded, the trainees set off on their adventure. It’s clear the city is under siege by Ultron and his drones, as burned-out cars, broken windows, trains ablaze, and buildings in disrepair dot the landscape. Even so, they can’t help but be impressed with Hawkeye’s deft flying skills, as he zips past skyscrapers and performs evasive maneuvers to avoid intimidating swarms of red lasers.
Ultron’s drones are able to hack into Howler One’s computer, and shortly after, the riders are ambushed by the evil automaton, who now knows about the weapon and Fury’s plan. Avenger superheroes Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, and Thor all make their presence felt, fighting Ultron one by one. Eventually, they assemble to fight Ultron as a team, but he is still too powerful. The superheroes agree that it’s time to disobey Director Fury’s order to deliver his weapon and use it right now instead.
Collectively, The Avengers bring down Ultron’s shields and give Howler One a clear shot. With a tremendous flash, the weapon fires an energy blast, shredding Ultron into pieces and causing his drones to drop harmlessly from the sky. The Avengers (and the trainees) are victorious!
